Under the Floorboards – Lectures Series Poster
70 years after the liberation of Auschwitz, the horrors of the Holocaust are still an important piece of history that needs not only to be acknowledged, but also spread through educational forums. “Under the Floorboards: Hidden Art of the Holocaust” was presented by guest lecturer Marc Dennis, who spoke to students on the subject of clandestine artwork made by prisoners inside Nazi concentration camps. I wanted the poster design to go beyond typical Holocaust symbols like swastikas or stars of David. After hearing that prisoners scratched messages directly into their bunks, I chose to scratch the type into a wood floor texture.
